Important The Hindu Editorial Vocabulary is an important part of SBI Clerk, SBI PO, SSC CGL and other exams. A major portion of the question paper tests your knowledge on vocabulary.

Groping(verb):

- तलाशने, अंधेरे में टटोलना, தடுமாறிக்
- to search for something by reaching or touching usually with your fingers in an
awkward way
- to move forward carefully by putting your hands in front of you so that you
can feel anything that blocks you
Synonyms: feel, fish, fumble, scrabble

Dissuade(verb):

- विरत करना, विस्र्द्ध सलाह करना, அகற்றுவோம், விரோதமாகப் புத்திமதி கூறு
-  to convince (someone) not to do something
Synonyms: deter, discourage, inhibit
Antonyms: encourage, persuade

Miscreant(adjective):

- बदमाश, पाजी, துஷ்டன், தவறு செய்பவன்
- a person who does something that is illegal or morally wrong
Synonyms: beast, brute, caitiff, devil,
Antonyms: angel, innocent, saint

Tantamount(adjective):

- समान, बराबर, வழிவகுக்கக்கூடும், விளைவில் ஒப்பான
- equal to something in value, meaning, or effect

Profusely(adjective)
:

- दरियादिली से, अतिव्यय से, நிக்காது
- given, produced, or existing in large amounts
Synonyms: copious, galore, gushing,
Antonyms: dribbling, trickling

Hierarchy(noun):

- पदक्रम, देवदूतों का वर्ग, வரிசைக்கு, தலைமைக் குரு
- a group that controls an organization and is divided into different levels
-  a system in which people or things are placed in a series of levels
with different importance or status

Patriarchy(noun):

- वृद्ध पुस्र्ष का आधिपत्य, ஆணாதிக்கம்
- a family, group, or government controlled by a man or a group of men
- a social system in which family members are related to each other
through their fathers

Puritanical(adjective):

- कड़ा, सख़्त,  கண்டிப்பாக, மிகவும் கண்டிப்பாக இருக்கிற
- very strict especially concerning morals and religion
Synonyms: blue-nosed, nice-Nelly, prim
Antonyms:  liberated, permissive, bad

Cosmopolitan(noun):

- कॉस्मोपॉलिटन, विश्ववादी, பரந்த நோக்குள்ள,
- a person who has lived in and knows about many different parts of the world
Synonyms:  smart, sophisticated, worldly
Antonyms:  guileless, ingenuous, innocent

Secular(adjective):

- धर्म निरपेक्ष, लौकिक, மதச்சார்பற்ற,  உலக சம்பந்தமான
- not spiritual: of or relating to the physical world and not the spiritual world
Synonyms: nonreligious, profane, temporal
Antonyms: religious, sacred religious, sacred

Grappled(noun):

- गुत्थम गुत्था, बांधना, போராடி வெற்றி
- to try to solve a problem: to deal with a problem
Synonyms: clasp, clench, hold, grasp
Antonyms: release, relinquishment

Canvassing(noun):

- प्रचार, पक्षपुष्टि के लिए उपार्थना,  திரட்டியதுவரை, வாக்கு / ஆதரவுதிரட்டுதல்
- a strong, rough cloth that is used to make bags, tents, sails, etc.
- a specially prepared piece of cloth on which a picture can be painted by an artist

Amendment(noun):

- संशोधन, दोर्षशोधन, திருத்தம்
- a change in the words or meaning of a law or document (such as a constitution)
Synonyms: correction, emendation

Ethos(noun):

- प्रकृति, जातीय स्वभाव, பண்பாடு, சமுதாயப் பண்பின் அடிப்படைக் கூறு
- the guiding beliefs of a person, group, or organization

Justifiable(adjective):

- तर्कसंगत, न्याय्य, நியாயமான, எண்பிக்கத்தக்க
- capable of being justified
Synonyms: defendable, defensible, tenable
Antonyms: indefensible, insupportable, unjustifiable

Deprivation(noun):

- हानि, नाश, இடர்பாடுகளாலும்
- the state of not having something that people need: the state of being deprived of something
Synonyms: privation, loss
Antonyms: control, ownership, possession

Nuances(noun):

- बारीकियों, अति सूक्ष्म अंतर, நுணுக்கங்களை
- a very small difference in color, tone, meaning, etc.

 Molest(verb):
- छेड़ना, आ लगना, பலவந்தப்படுத்த, இடையூறு செய்
- to harm (someone) through sexual contact : to touch (someone) in a sexual and improper 

    way
- to bother or annoy (someone or something)


Creepy(adjective):
 - खौफनाक, रेंगनेवाला, பழமை
- strange or scary : causing people to feel nervous and afraid
Synonyms: haunting, spookish, spooky, uncanny,
Antonyms: calming, comfortable, easy, peaceful


Sketchy(adjective):

- ढांचे के रूप में, अधूरा, மேலோட்டமான, அரைகுறையான
- not complete or clear
- likely to be bad or dangerous

Domain(noun):

- डोमेन, ज्ञानक्षेत्र, இராச்சியம், அதிகார(அ) ஆதிக்க வரம்பு (எல்லை)
-  the land that a ruler or a government controls
-  an area of knowledge or activity
Synonyms: terrain, walk, barony, business

Grabbed(verb):

- पकड़ा, झपटकर पकड़ना, பிடித்துக்கொண்டார்,பறி
- to quickly take and hold (someone or something) with your hand or arms

Aftermath(noun):

- परिणाम, दूसरी कटाई, பின்னர் , பின்விளைவு
- the period of time after a bad and usually destructive event
Synonyms: aftereffect, effect, backwash, child
Antonyms: antecedent, causation, cause

Insinuation(noun):

- कटाक्ष , फुसलाव, மறைமுகமாகக்
- a usually bad or insulting remark that is said in an indirect way

Reluctance(noun):

- अनिच्छा, தயக்கம், பிரியமின்மை
- a certain degree of unwillingness
Synonyms: disinclination, hesitance, hesitancy
Antonyms: inclination, willingness

Accusatory(adjective):

- दोष लगानेवाला,अभियोग लगानेवाला, குற்றம் சாட்டுகிற
- accusing or blaming someone : assigning blame or fault

Integrity(noun):

- अखंडता, ईमानदारी, நேர்மை, நாணயம்
-  the quality of being honest and fair
Synonyms: character, decency, morality, probity
Antonyms:  badness, evil, immorality, iniquity

Consumption(noun):

- सेवन , उपयोग, புசித்தல், உண்ணுதல்
- the act of eating or drinking something
- use by a particular group of people

Harvest(noun):

- फ़सल, कृषि फल, அறுவடை
- he season when crops are gathered from the fields or the activity of gathering crops

Antonyms: plant, seed, sow

Cereals(adjective):

- अनाज , सीरियल्स , தானியங்கள், கூளவகைகள்

Contribute(verb):

- योगदान, अंशदान करना, பங்களிக்க, பங்காகக் கொடு
-  to give (something, such as money, goods, or time) to help a person, group, cause, or organization
- to help to cause something to happen
Synonyms: chip in, kick in, pitch in
Antonyms: withhold; preserve, save

Malnutrition(noun):

- कुपोषण, पोषण की कमी, சத்து குறைந்த உணவு
- the unhealthy condition that results from not eating enough food
or not eating enough healthy food : poor nutrition

Degrading(verb):

- अपमानजनक,  अपमान जनक , இழிவான
- to treat (someone or something) poorly and without respect

Antonyms:  complimentary, laudative, laudatory

Refrigerated(verb):

- प्रशीतित ,ठंडा करना , குளிரூட்டப்பட்ட

Distribute(verb):
