Important The Hindu Editorial Vocabulary is an important part of SBI Clerk, SBI PO, SSC CGL and other exams. A major portion of the question paper tests your knowledge on vocabulary. To help you prepare, We bring you a list of commonly asked words in any competitive exam.In order to make it easy for all the aspirants, we have started our series named 'English Vinglish'. We have posted Important Vocabulary in Hindi and Tamil as well so that you can easily memorize them.

Dominate(verb):
- हावी, शासन करना, ஆதிக்கம், ஆதிக்கம் செலுத்து
-  to have control of or power over (someone or something)
Synonyms: conquer, overpower, pacify, subdue
Antonyms: discharge, emancipate, enfranchise, free

Deify(verb):

- देवता-सदृश पूजा करना, தெய்வமாக்கு
- to treat (someone or something) like a god or goddess
Synonyms: adore, adulate, canonize, idolize
Antonyms: abhor, abominate, despise, detest

Radical (adjective):
- उग्र, मौलिक, தீவிரவாத, அடிப்படைக்கூறு
- very new and different from what is traditional or ordinary
- very basic and important
Synonyms: rabid, extreme, revolutionary, revolutionist
Antonyms: middle-of-the-road, nonrevolutionary, unrevolutionary

Punitive(adjective):
- दंडात्मक, கடுமையான அபராத, தண்டிக்கிற
- intended to punish someone or something
Synonyms: castigating, chastening, chastising, correcting
Antonyms: pardoning, remitting; commuting, reprieving

Emphatic(adjective):
- ज़ोरदार, प्रभावी, வலுவான, வலியுறுத்தும்
- said or done in a forceful or definite way
Synonyms: aggressive, assertive, dynamic, energetic, forceful
Antonyms: nonassertive, nonemphatic, unemphatic

Expedition(noun):
- अभियान, खोजयात्रा, பயணம், விரைவு
- a journey was undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration,
research, or war
Synonyms: journey, passage, peregrination, travel

Inappropriate(adjective):
- अनुचित, अयोग्य, பொருத்தமற்ற, பொருத்தம் அற்ற
- not right or suited for some purpose or situation: not appropriate or suitable
Synonyms: amiss, graceless, improper, inapposite
Antonyms: appropriate, becoming, befitting, correct

Nativism(noun):
- नेटिविज्म, दैशीयता, நாட்டிவிசன்
- the theory that concepts, mental capacities, and mental structures are innate rather than acquired by
learning.
Synonyms: geniture, birth,  spawning

Extremist(adjective):
- अतिवादी, उग्रवादी, தீவிரவாத, தீவிரவாத
- belief in and support for ideas that are very far from what most people consider
correct or reasonable
Synonyms: extreme, fanatic, radical, revolutionist
Antonyms: middle-of-the-road, nonrevolutionary, unrevolutionary

Ransom(noun):
- फिरौती, रिहाई, பணத்திற்காக, மீட்புப்பணம் கொடுத்து விடுவி
- money that is paid in order to free someone who has been captured or kidnapped
Synonyms: redeem,  deliver, rescue, save

Perception(noun):
- अनुभूति, समझना, கருத்து, அறிவு
-  the way you think about or understand someone or something
-  the ability to understand or notice something easily
Synonyms: discernment, insight, wisdom, perceptiveness
Antonyms: density, dullness,  brainless, folly

Credence(noun):

- प्रत्यय, विश्वास, நம்பகத் தன்மை, நம்பிக்கை
- the quality of being believed or accepted as something true or real
Synonyms: confidence, trust, faith, stock
Antonyms: mistrust

Narrative(noun):
- कथा, लंबी कहानी, கதை, கதை சொல்லுதல்
- a story that is told or written
- a spoken or written account of connected events; a story.
Synonyms: chronicle, chronology, commentary

Propagate(verb):
- प्रचार, वंश बढ़ाना, பிரச்சாரம், பரவச் செய்
-  to make (something, such as an idea or belief) known to many people
Synonyms: breed, multiply, procreate, reproduce
Antonyms: cloak, conceal, enshroud, hide, hold

Violations(noun):
- उल्लंघन, बलात्कार, மீறல்கள், கட்டு மீருகை
-  the act of doing something that is not allowed by a law or rule
-  the act of ignoring or interfering with a person's rights
Synonyms: breach, crime, error, lawbreaking, malefactor
Antonyms: noncrime, virtue,  faultlessness

Debate(noun):
- वाद विवाद, झगड़ा, விவாதம், வாக்கு வாதம்
- to discuss (something) with people whose opinions are different from your own
- to think about (something) in order to decide what to do

Implicate(verb):
- फंसाना, चक्कर में डालना,வழக்குகளில் சிக்க
-  to show that someone or something is closely connected to or involved in something

Antonyms: disentangle, uncoil, untangle, unwind

Tolerate(verb):
- सहन, सहन करना, பொறுத்துக்கொள்ள, இடங்கொடு
- to allow (something that is bad, unpleasant, etc.) to exist, happen, or be done
- to accept the feelings, behavior, or beliefs of (someone)
Synonyms:  let, permit, suffer, allow
Antonyms: bar, block, constrain, prevent

Consortium(noun):
- संघ,  सहायता संघ, தொழில்கள் கூட்டமைப்பு, நிறுவனங்களின் கூட்டுச் சங்கம்
-  a group of people, companies, etc., that agree to work together
Synonyms: board, brotherhood, chamber, club

Deduction(noun):
- कटौती, परिणाम, துப்பறியும், கழித்தல்
-  the act of taking away something (such as an amount of money) from a total
- the act or process of using logic or reason to form a conclusion or opinion about
something: the act or process of deducing something
Synonyms: abatement, discount, reduction
Antonyms:  accession, addition

Subvention(noun):
- सब्सिडी, மானியம்
- an amount of money that is given to a person or group by a government or organization
Synonyms: allocation, allotment, annuity,

Corpus(noun):
- कोष, मानवशरीर, ஒரு பொருளை பற்றிய முழுமையான இலக்கியத் தொகுப்பு
-  a collection of writings, conversations, speeches, etc., that people use to study and
describe a language

Accountability(noun):
- जवाबदेही, लेखा देयता, பொறுப்புக்கூறல்

Eminent(adjective):
- प्रख्यात, विख्यात, சிறந்த, மேம்பட்ட
- successful, well-known and respected
Synonyms: astral, bright, distinguished, illustrious
Antonyms:  insignificant, minor, unimportant; average

Critical(adjective):
- महत्वपूर्ण, समालोचनात्मक, விமர்சன, நெருக்கடியான
- using or involving careful judgment about the good and bad parts of something
Synonyms: faultfinding, hypercritical, judgment, rejective
Antonyms:  undiscriminating, undemanding, unfussy
